I'm a Movie Addict

I love a good movie - especially on a cold winters day. Cup of tea, the other half, cuddles and a good movie = perfect to me.

We buy a lot of DVDs and it was getting quite expensive so I found a way to save money, help the environment and help charities fund raise.

Have you ever noticed how you only ever watch films once, maybe twice if your really enjoy them before they enter your collection to gather dust? I noticed this a month or so ago when I was having a clear out which resulted in a trip to the local charity shop - The British Heart Foundation - of about 30 films to donate, which probably cost me about £300 all together when bought. The shop will probably sell these for just a £1 but raise £30 for their cause.

While there I looked through the DVDs they had for sale and bought five for a fiver - bargain in my books!

By buying second hand I've helped the environment by reusing and unwanted DVD rather than purchasing new. This creates value for second hand DVDs rather than sending them to land fill. Also by not buying new all the resources it takes to produce a new DVD aren't used.

I've also generated funds for the charity shops cause while saving myself money and making space at home.

Now I'm getting into the habit of buying second hand DVDs and then donating to a charity shop once watched. It's a small contribution to the environment and charity but the more of us that do this the bigger impact we can have on the environment, good causes and our wallets. Also with more of us joining in the greater selection available in the charity shops for us to choose from.

Of course we don't all have time to search charity shops for the DVDs we want. I don't, my purchases in charity shops are purely opportunistic. If you look on Amazon or eBay you can search for DVDs and often pick up used DVDs for a few pence plus postage. With Amazon the trick is not to buy at the headline price but look for the new & used prices to buy at the cheapest rate. I'm sure any frequent Amazon user knows this however!

Do the same with Amazon/eBay purchases, once watched send to the charity shop.

This is one small thing you can do to help the environment and help charities carry out amazing work to make ours and others lives better. It's also nice to do something for the environment and charity that also saves us money from our own wallets.

I would love to hear from anyone who gives this a go. Let me know how you get on.

@moviefan545 I have a few that I do watch over and over again. One of my favourites at the moment is eye in the sky at the moment so films like that I'll keep.

I can't recommend enough checking out the used DVDs enough know to save yourself some money though
