Not that they even have much to do with the ancient Israelites. Today's Ashkenazi Jews probably have about as much Israelite ancestry as any other population from Central Europe.

@LeopoldBloom I wasn't referring to that. I mean that the ancient Israelis were absorbed into various local populations through mixing. Ashkenazi Jews are basically Germans who practiced Judaism instead of Christianity. Being German, I probably have just as much Ancient Israelite DNA as any Ashkenazi Jew. Same goes for the Spaniards and the Sephardi Jews.
