Netanyahu On Verge Of Making A Comeback

With 85% of the votes counted, the political alliance led by Netanyahu, has a slight edge over the center-left coalition. This is Israel's 5th election since 2019.

To win majority of the 120 Knesset members, Netanyahu forged the most extremist religious/right wing alliance in Israel's history.

His win will not stop his upcoming trial on corruption charges, but even if he's convicted, he can remain in office, pending an appeal, a process that could take 3-5 years. On the agenda for the would be Netanyahu government (assuming they follow their campaign promises): weakening the judiciary to allow more religious control, and accelerating the program to replace Palestinians with Orthodox Jews, in the West Bank.

His buddy Trump is taking notes.

This is mind blowing to me. I'd REALLY like to see the U.S. cut them off from the American teat they've been sucking on for decades. Want that kind of government? Fine. Then do it alone.

@Ynotisay The money we give them, must be spent on US technology, so it's been a "pork barrel" loophole, used by Congress to inject $s into their districts (where US defense contractors are located).

It's the political cover we provide that should come with strings attached. If we're opposed to countries' annexing land that does not belong to them, then we surely would be opposed to the annexation of the Golan Heights (happened a few years ago), and the planned annexation of the West Bank, and the current settlements (grew from a few people to nearly 750,000 under Netanyahu).

Cards on the table, I have family connections there, and I don't want to see the Orthodox knuckle draggers take over, for the same reasons I don't want to see the MAGA and Evangelical knuckle draggers take over in the US.

@Northwest Agree. I'm all for the U.S. supporting allies as along as they're not talking out of both sides of their mouth. The hold that Israel has over the U.S. is something I'm growing very tired of. In my opinion, the leadership there, both religious and political, have used "enemies" to help fund their existence and keep people under their thumbs. Take that path if you want but don't expect the U.S. and others to pay for it.

Hard to imagine Israel used to be "the good guys."
Northwest · M
@Fukfacewillie North American Orthodox immigrants are turning it into another theocracy. They're also driving high rates of immigration to the US, mostly from the Israeli left, or the people with the brains that made Israel what it is today.

It's not like we're not looking down the MAGA barrel, and I mean that figuratively and literally.
