It refers to faking sorrow over something you don’t actually care about to give the appearance of superiority. An example would be conservatives who respond to school shootings by bringing up “black on black violence in Chicago” when they don’t actually care about Black people. It’s basically saying “you don’t care about what’s really important while I do” when in fact, they [i]don’t[/i] care.
