Do narcissists have friends? [I Want To Spread Narcissism Awareness]

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9hqOg6S7D0]
Not in my view.
The way I see it, a narcissist selects whom they wish to cultivate (charm) as a friend based on characteristics like usefulness and looking good in the eyes of others.
It their help another, it is only to further a personal goal, an act to be used as a fulcrum for future manipulation.
Since narcissists care only about themselves, they lack empathy for others, therefore genuine rapport, understanding and intimacy doesn't develop.
The narcissist is not capable of being a true friend, so the person on the other side who gets hooked is destined to be disappointed, and will probably end up abused and betrayed.
@hartfire Yep. And when you finally figure out what the narcissist did and try to make friends with others, it turns out that you just can't bring yourself to trust anyone anymore.

@hartfire Yup,this is exactly what happens.
Oh my God. I been through this. I had a friend who would tell me about all the famous people she knew that were "friends" with her sister and she would ditch me all the time to hang out with them because they were cooler.

@CleverFunnyNameGoesHere Cool is a strange expression, just what does it mean to be "cool"? The people who are considered "cool" in our society for the most, are often manipulative and devious characters who know how to sell themselves.I much rather be a person of integrity even if it does not look too "cool" to some people and they think I am a walk over.
@berangere This is true. But I guess by "cool" I mean I'm not charismatic or have widely popular interests. And yeah, I'd rather have integrity then deal with this person. I still deal with the drama she helped to create in my life. But as long as I cut out anyone who is associated with her whether directly or indirectly I can limit some of my trauma.

Edit: It hurt to do this but it was necessary for my sanity.

@CleverFunnyNameGoesHere Yes, it is the only way one cannot negociate with narcs and the results of their actions.

Have you personally had bad experiences with narcs ? .... I’m sorry if you’ve been hurt 😔

This woman is insanely smart. I’ve subscribed to her ty x

@SW-User @SW-User Yes I grew up with them and spent seven years of my life with another one and one can only have bad experiences with narcs as they take away everything that is dear to you and give you nothing in return, and you end up diminished.

They’re are a bad sort. I’ve had my share of their kind and life is so much better when I’m with kind, empathetic souls .... the difference is incredible it’s like cold and prickly vs warm and fuzzy .... I’ll take the latter every time ♥️ @berangere

They have other narcissistic friends. They stick together .

@SW-User Their "friendship" would be very superficial.
