I Do Not Like Narcissists

I have been hearing the word "Narcissist" being used a lot lately, especially on the news. I thought I had a good idea of what it meant. I thought it just meant being overly proud. Out of curiosity I looked it up online and I found this interesting:

Traits and Signs of Narcissism:

- An obvious self-focus in interpersonal exchanges
- Problems in sustaining satisfying relationships
- A lack of psychological awareness
- Difficulty with empathy
- Problems distinguishing the self from others
- Hypersensitivity to any insults or imagined insults
- Vulnerability to shame rather than guilt
- Haughty body language
- Flattery towards people who admire and affirm them
- Detesting those who do not admire them
- Using other people without considering the cost of doing so
- Pretending to be more important than they actually are
- Bragging (subtly but persistently) and exaggerating their achievements
- Claiming to be an "expert" at many things
- Inability to view the world from the perspective of other people
- Denial of remorse and gratitude

Do you know anyone who sounds like this?

I always saw narcissism as selfishness, and the need to justify that. I think many people are that way more or less.

No, it's more than that.
It's the way they constantly talk about themselves and their achievements and hate to hear of yours. A nasty competitiveness. Someone starring in their own personal drama.
Someone who will not accept responsibility for any wrong doing but will play the victim.

@InOtterWords: Yes. All that plus a huge empathy deficiency.

@InOtterWords: That sounds like a more detailed version of my description. Being self-centered, and needing to justify that. (By hating anyone else's accomplishments, needing to be better, not wanting to ever be wrong, being a victim etc) These things justify self love when you believe them.

I was just describing my mil
😂😀

@InOtterWords: Lol! Does anyone like in-laws? :)
SW-User
No, but mine is hated by 2 of her kids and 3 of her grandkids, not just her daughters in law
😂

@OWTFWN: if it was just her kids then ok, but with her sister, her colleagues, other family members? I'm telling you she's a narcissist.
The only person she has a good relationship with is one of her sons, but then he is not married and doesn't have a family.

@OWTFWN: I've talked in length with my therapist about this and she agrees

@OWTFWN: I don't think it's fair to judge my therapist, me or my mil by this conversation.
I actually prefer to think that my mil is a narcissist and has a personality disorder rather than be a total fucking bitch to everyone in her life
