I Have A Narcissist Ex
I still love him very much that's the power a narcissist had over a co-dependant individual. I attract narcissists like bees to honey and I really don't know why. it's unfortunate but true.
I try to remain friends with my ex not getting too close to him, only bike rides and lunch-in public places. I don't trust him but recently he's been doing better...he seemed different. This summer had been remarkable as far as his behavior was concerned. He seemed more friendly, empathic and even in his
moods. However, last night when I met him for a late night ride something happened that made me realize id fallen for his act again.
Like I'd said, I met him for a ride at a grocery store where he bought himself some chicken to ostensibly prepare for a long ride in the park. During this time I lost my keys at the grocery store. Or so I thought, it turns out they were stolen. My ex had told me that the old lady sitting near to us in the eating area of the store was the one who had stolen them. He called the police they searched the old woman :(
I knew in my heart they had been stolen but before the police were called I searched for my keys in the store, asking people, looking high and low for a good hour. It was late, and the store was not busy. I had only gone there to buy water and meet up with him. so I wasn't all over the store buying things. The whole time I was in near hysterics. Not only was it late at night and the likelihood that I would get back into my apartment unlikely but his bike was locked to mine, he seemed angry and anxious to leave. He watched me cry, searching frantically and offered no words of encouragement like "you'll find them, calm down" or offer me even a hug but instead he chastised me. Asking me "What is wrong with you lately??" angrily, "this is the third time this week you lost your keys" in a harsh tone; as if he would know.
Anyhow, the police arrived and they searched the lady...she was elderly and they had to go through everything she had. The officer searched her right there in the store and she was crying :((( I felt so bad. Meanwhile, my ex had completely disappeared. I couldn't find him I thought he was looking for my keys.I had not searched his bag of course...that would have been ridiculous to even think of!! He would never steal from me...
Naturally, they weren't on the lady and the cop drove her home. I'm sure she was very upset if not traumatized.
I was about to get the store manager to get a bolt cutter to cut my ex's bike loose when he suddenly appeared and tapped me on the shoulder to motion me outside.
He said "I found your keys in my bag. I looked 50 times I didn't see them before I don't know how they got in there"
Why he didn't tell me that he simply found them on the ground baffles me. Narcissists are not very good liars.
He handed them back to me and missing was the sterling silver bauble with a mercurial bell inside. It didn't mean anything to me it was just a pretty bauble. It had been wrenched from the keychain; it had to be twisted off with great force and that little old lady certainly didn't do it.
I can't believe he watched me for nearly 2 hours in near hysterics, had an old lady searched and chastised me as if I were a child when the whole time he had my keys in his possession. What kind of person does this except narcissist? What a terrible human being and again my heart is hurt badly. I'm so ashamed to have trusted and let my guard down. I'm very sad :(
