A new twist...

Got up to find my wife has a new twist in her dementia -- a dollar bill floating in the toilet and a twenty thrown in the bathroom trash. And of course she denies having anything to do with it. I don't know if she believes that, or like a little child denies everything.

Yes Ernie, I experience that with my dad too. He has pigeons and needs to take care of them. It's only by the routine of doing it that has he lasted this far. I'm frightened that he's going to neglect them. I can't trust what he's saying afterwards. But I phone him when he normally feeds them and then I know if he did. It's imposing little checks like this that I'm helping him along now. I can't visit him today because I'm sick. There's a lot of covid related colds around here

@val70 I know eventually she'll have to go into memory care, as her Mom did. But I feel like I'm somehow betraying her to do that -- particularly for as long as she seems to remember who i am, who the pup is.. :(

@ChipmunkErnie I guess that each case is different. My dad is kind of stabilized a bit because I take him out atleast twice a week. Not to shop but to have pancakes or such. On Thursday he went to a barbeque. I just let him talk to people then. It's the silent or verbal interaction that somehow does him good. Not that he's ever been sociable. Just saying that there are strategies and everyone is different. Courage!

@val70 The neurologist can't figure out quite what happened, she suddenly had such a downturn and no one can figure out why. She's had all kinds of tests, brain scans, etc., but over a 6-month period she went from answering 15 out of 30 questions on their test to only 3 out of 30. She is delusional, carrying on conversations with people who aren't there, thinks there are other people living in the house. :(

@ChipmunkErnie Yes, that sounds different to my dad's case. The grandmother of my housemate was more like your wife, I guess. Totally with the fairies. She went into a home and was very happy there. All depends of the people who are there
