But why are people freaking out about racism and climate change as if they're new things? These things have been around for a while.

They're terrible. No doubt.

Because humanity has been ignoring them for too long and now taking action has become urgent and it will have to be drastic. And it also gives politicians a reason to ignore other urgent issues like COVID and capitalism.
