Sometimes I start thinking of hurting myself not enough to kill, but just enough to get me some time off work for the suicidal gesture.

Would you think I am scamming the system? Or is it a symptom of my mental health that suicidal thoughts are a coping mechanism?

I would imagine that the amount of BS you would have to go through after such an act would not be worth the time off.

Plus if you had to do a psyche evaluation, mental health experts know when people are faking "craziness".
