Mental health is underrated

Just attended a toolbox meeting on mental health today.

In Construction Industry across Australia, approx 190 people die by suicide, every year.

Long hours , poor work life balance, high stress, long travel times are factors.

1 in 4 has symptoms of depression or anxiety.

Speak up, seek help.
Do not suffer in silence.

Having worked 3 decades in Construction, I definitely support any programs which encourage suicide prevention.

This really touched me. Mental health in construction is often overlooked, yet the struggles are very real — the long hours, constant pressure, and time away from family take such a heavy toll. Losing so many lives every year to suicide is heartbreaking. No one should ever feel they have to carry that weight alone. Speaking up and supporting each other can truly make a difference. Thank you for sharing this reminder — it gives strength to those who might be suffering in silence. There’s always help, and there’s always hope.

Yes, mental health is an important topic regardless of the field.

Different fields, different stressors. But the common thing is that we are all humans.

It's just a sad thing that many times, a big part of those stressors are poor management and poor planning. Affected and caused by humans too.

But this is the first time I hear it brought up in the construction field. That is good to hear. The physical exertion must be too exhausting at times.
@Casheyane Yesterday I walked past a guy wearing a shirt that said, "NO ONE CARES, WORK HARDER". Unfortunately that seems to be the dominant narrative in my state.
