Mental health issue

Anyone here suffering from anxiety: did meds help you?
I am actually afraid to take anti anxiety medication and suffer after from side effects.
I would be happy to see some experiences before I take a decision.

I'm reading a real life experience book by a suicidal journalist from her real life experience. Basically she says they give you a handful of addictive meds that may or may not do anything
