What do you think of extreme cases of cruelty?

I’ve noticed that many aspiring psych students/ avid psych readers are interested in going to jails , say that criminals got em into psych… bcz these people require high lvls of empathy.

For me, extreme cases are left for god/universe/karma/superpower call it what u want . ( ofc I mean people who kill, hurt and keep hurting others, don’t stop cruel acts…)
Psych doesn’t always have to be about helping others, sometimes understanding is enough.
