No motivation.

It's been creeping up bit by bit.

Nothing matters. All things change. Achievements vanish. Contributions fade. Experiences forgotten. All that exists, whether material or kinetic energy, lasts only relative moments before it decays or transforms into something else.

None of it means anything. All the fighting, struggling, striving, whether it "succeeds" or "fails", ebbs away into nothing. This bit of writing lasts only as long as people can read signs, read English. Only as long as there is an internet and electricity to run it. This species is likely to drive 90% of all species, in this round of evolution, to extinction - possibly even itself. But even if it doesn't, one day the Sun burns down to 10% less than it's present strength, and when it does all life on Earth dies - every last cell of life. And the Universe continues in its entropy until who-knows-what-fate - and not one aspect of it matters or makes a difference.

No purpose. No goals. Not much energy.

The body feels heavy, a burden of 62 kilos that must be shifted now and again just to stay alive - and even that is not much wanted except at the most cellular of levels. The cells have their own automated will to live. But they too run out of energy. The skin dries. Little aches and pains signal the onset of age, and gradually multiply. The tingling of a cell signals trouble: not enough blood flow, nutrients, oxygen; waste not expelled efficiently; an infection to fight; no more reproduction or growth, just death - a million tiny deaths, cell by cell, as the body decays long before the moment when consciousness blinks out for the last time.

Life turns into a process of waiting for death.

The purpose is to change. Not to ignore the change. To ignore change is self defeating, hence the depression. Everything either builds upon itself or distroys itself if it doesn't change.

A star will continuously grow heavier and heavier until it reaches its critical mass and explodes. That doesn't mean the mass no longer exists. That mass will form other planets as well as many other things like nebulas. Over an even longer time period. And the nucleic acids that make up our DNA will as well change and make life possible on some other planet.
