As a young 28 year old man living with mental illness and mental health problems I began to normalize isolation from everyone I generally was alone

I spent a lot of time alone tried to make friends but I couldn’t make any friends as I kept scaring people away and people didn’t want to make friends with me I spent a lot of time isolating myself doing everything alone and I do feel it at times but In the end I was often alone i struggled as a kid and teenager and as an adult to make friends but I was often just left isolated

I can relate to some degree. Up until the age of 23 I was a very isolated person; I'd rarely ever leave the house unless I had to. The change came when I was fortunate enough to bump into an acquaintance (now my girlfriend) who invited me to a social gathering she had each week.
