Hmm ! So, went to have my eyes tested

Usually go to a high street chain place.
You sit at one machine and answer the questions the 'Optician' asks you.
What's the lowest line you can read ?

Which is clearer the letters on the green or red background ?

Is this a circle or a square ?
Kinda thing.
Had a Glaucoma check - no problem
Then had to switch to a different machine to measure 'Peripheral vision'.
First attempt: 5/20....馃
Second attempt: 6/20

This had the guy doing the test scratching his head.
He explained it's impossible to have such a high score on the previous test yet such a low score on the second.
I said is that indicative of a problem with me or the machine ?
He said he didn't know but would seek advice.

He then disappears FOR AN HOUR before coming back with somebody older in a suit who then tinkers with a palmpilot and the machine and then asks me to resit the entire test.
Which I do.
He then turns to his colleague (the guy doing my test) and says
The results are within acceptable limits
......
And I'm left thinking
馃槧 What the hell does that mean ?
I asked the 'Suit'
So am I in need of a new prescription ?
He says
Your eyes are off by 4%. If it had been 9 or above we'd suggest yes. But as it is you're fine.
馃し What are you supposed to make of that ?

Neighbors son is a eye doctor.all he ever does is complain about how hard he has it ..

@MarineBob Lots of 'normal' things I can't do at the moment (the last year !) I was kind of hoping a successful eye test might indicate the road to recovery !
And all its left me with is more questions

Your eyes are probably fine, but the office acted fairly unprofessionally. You can always ask for information, such as what the 2nd score was, but they should have offered information and explanation for a worried or perplexed patient. You could ask to be retested on their dome as the issue was theirs. And it makes you wonder what happened with previous patients on badly calibrated machine? It would shake my confidence in the practice, personally.

If you want to test your peripheral vision, simply have a friend help you by holding up a finger and moving it to each side while you fix straight ahead. If you can see the finger as it moves to your ear or just before that, you're fine. Good luck.
