I think I have an anger problem…

Growing up I was always very calm. Anger never was something I dealt with. As an adult, this is quickly changing. I get extremely upset over small things.

Tonight I was super hungry and was opening up some chips and salsa. I tried for about five minutes to open that damned can of salsa. Eventually I just screamed and threw the can on the floor, and it shattered. Instant regret. It took about a half hour to clean it up.

I think part of the issue is that I feel like I can get angry without hurting anyone when I’m alone. I bottle it up when I’m with other people, but when I’m alone it doesn’t feel like it matters.

If you sense a growing problem, you might be onto something. And it's okay.

Anger, where I work, is considered an import emotion, meaning rarely is anger the primary issue. It's a symptom. Of what, only a professional who assesses you can determine. Sometimes it's childhood trauma or PTSD. But it can be attributble to ADHD and even simple stress.

The trick is too identify your triggers, find the source and then work on either/both resolution or stress reduction techniques and thinking. Good luck.
