I hear that drinking lots of alcohol can make them.

@Tastyfrzz I've heard the same, so I looked it up. The short answer is that alcohol can make an underlying condition called rhinophyma get worse. So not all drinkers get the nose, and not all folks with the nose are drinkers, but the correlation is real.
