When i worked in retail a boss told me if I was going to sit around doing nothing hold a pen in my hand so if the owner got off the elevator I would look busy.

When I first started working construction an old hand was on site with me shooting the shit as the boss pulled up, suddenly I'm learning everything about rock trucks. After the boss kept driving I got a very important lesson "never let that man see you standing around, you don't have to be doing anything. Make sure you're doing something though". Couple months later I was on another job, stopped for a second and he pulled up. Don't let him see you standing still
