Great in summer, great in winter. Whisky would work too I guess but it's too strong and I couldn't have more than a glass a week, it would turn my stomach upside down, and it's definitely not attractive unless it's really cold outside. Other drinks more often that not are too watered down, and paradoxically more expensive, and wouldn't work as well on colds.
It's also super easy to make it yourself, all you need is Campari/Select and sparkling wine; technically the recipe says also "soda" but you can omit it if you go with a drier wine. Ice cubes is pretty much the only diluent they'll use in the places where they make it right, I've seen
