If modern medicine didn't exist, would you be dead right now? If yes, from what?

Yes. I was born with a bad mitral valve which didn't get detected until I was 45 years old. I had surgery and it was replaced with a titanium valve that saved my life.
@HowtoDestroyAngels Happy that it worked out for you

Many of us over 70 would’ve been dead by now if it wasn’t for modern medicines. We had polio, whooping cough and smallpox vaccines available and administered which saved us from diseases that the previous generation died from. Healthy eating has obviously helped alongside all the technical advances in surgery, diagnostics and research. I would probably have died from the effects of diabetes without the drugs that daily help me manage the condition.

yes i would be dead if not for blood transfusions. would have died as a baby. (i was a rhesus negative baby)
IV antibiotics saved me form a necrotizing skin infection once (or twice or more). I was almost in sepsis. but then it was side effects from some meds i was taking that was the likely cause of the infection in the first place, so... so i guess modern medicine doomed me and saved me both.
@Penny Sorry to hear of your condition. Thank Goodness for blood transfusions
Probably not!
I'd be alive. Modem medicine kept me in labor over a three day weekend, in a crowd of ladies in labor, so we could wait until Monday to give birth in the presence of MD's.
One baby died, I went into heart failure from terbutaline, a woman had a stroke and lost half the vision in one eye...
Because money.
I was fifty five years old when I finally discovered that antibiotics don't take three weeks to work. I was given lots of them, none ever worked until I was fifty five.

Yes, first time would have been when I gave birth to my son. I almost died and had to have two blood transfusions and was in the Hospital for a week. Before modern medicine I would have just died.

Second was my stroke, without the medicine they gave me it would have been much worse and could of ended it death.

No. I've gotten through every ailment I've had, some resolved on their own, still live with a couple, without any meds or drugs.
And I know others have as well.
@Magenta the only people who seem desperate to claim we've all been "saved" are doctors.

Yes. I was almost born at 5 months but medical intervention helped my mother remain pregnant with me. My lungs hadn't fully developed yet so I wouldn't have made it to life.
Epilepsy. Idk about dead but I wouldn't be in a great state. Before the right dosage of meds I'd have up to 3-4 seizures a day.
Nunki · 31-35, F
I had bad bronchitis in July and if it's not for that antibiotic and inhaler I guess I would have been in a much worse condition or even dead lolz. But idk I'm still not old so might be alive either way
@Nunki That is a great way to look at it
tobynshorty · 51-55, F
I don’t think I would be dead but yeah MVP has been with me for life.
Cigarguy · M
Yes I have a heart condition and a rapid heartbeat.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
Yes. From Mastocytosis that turned into leukemia.
faery · F
Asthma or some secondary bacterial infection, probably.
@faery I had asthma and pneumonia both. Would have died if it wasn't for medical intervention
faery · F
@urbancowboy I know that feeling. Glad you got through it 🤗
@faery Thanks, me too🤗
KentuckyFriedFloozy · 26-30, F
Not yet. I've never been injured that bad or that sick.

I'd have a bunch of children already tho 😂
@KentuckyFriedFloozy Me too, probably :)
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Yes, probably a kidney failure. If not that then any viral infection.
Elessar · 31-35, M
I guess I'd be still alive, even the most serious things I had thus far could've realistically resolved on their own

Nonetheless I don't want to know
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
