The doctor makes money from prescribing pharmaceuticals and the nurse practioner doesn’t

@cherokeepatti Are you talking kickbacks?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nelladell “Annual bonuses” is what they like to call it. But yeah.

@cherokeepatti There used to be a site where you could type in a doctor's name and it would tell how much he got, if he had taken kickbacks. The last time I went to do that, I couldn't find the site. A looooong time ago I read a tell-all book (name and author forgotten) which claimed that doctors' kickbacks were in the form of lavish vacations -- that they would prescribe from one company until they "earned" one, then start prescribing from another to "earn" another."

@Nelladell wow, I would love to find a site like that and look up some names

@Nelladell Pharmaceutical companies were paying for vacation junkets for high-ranking FDA officials until that got exposed on TV years ago. Probably more subtle with their bribes now.

@cherokeepatti eight of ten I looked up had a dollar amount for the year before.
