If x is divided by 45, the remainder is 23. What is that number?

If that x is divided by 9, what is the remainder?

x = 45n + 23, with n an integer

If we then do x/9 we get (45n + 23)/9 = 5n + 23/9
So the remainder part is only decided by the 23/9, which is 3 with a remainder of 5.

@Classified How was the 9 brought?
Classified · M
@Riemann Brought? I'm sorry I do not know what that means in this context, but if you mean this step: (45n + 23)/9 = 5n + 23/9
Then steps in between are (45n + 23)/9 = 45n/9 + 23/9 = (45/9)*n + 23/9 = 5n + 23/9

@Classified I mean how was 9 taken to be placed under x?

De question is about x divided by 9. So x/9.
Riemann · 31-35, M
@Classified Ok, suppose this question has only this first part:
If x is divided by 45, the remainder is 23. What is that number?
Then?
Classified · M
@Riemann Then x = 45*n + 23 with n an integer (maybe n also greater or equal than 0)
Because there are an infinite amount of numbers x which satisfy.
If x is divided by 45, the remainder is 23.
The 45*n is divisible by 45, hence the remainder of 45*n + 23 divided by 45 is 23.
