If you lose a horse, is it as sad as when you lose a cat or dog?
They just look kinda more purpose built rather than a friend.

There are "horse people", just as there are "cat people" and "dog people".
Horse people bond deeply with their horses. They have a loving relationship with them.
Horses are intelligent, and they appreciate "their" people a lot. They come running when they see "their" person, because...guess who has carrots or an apple in their pocket? They respond to love.
So yes...if a "horse person" loses their horse, it is just as sad as losing ANY family pet.
