Ahh, the stifle is a very complicated & large joint, much more complex than a hock, etc. Depends on age of horse (secondary arthritis), type of injury, was it fixation of patella? Osteochondrosis? Surgery is really the ultimate for stifle injuries, so if your horse is still ‘telling you’ they’re in pain it’s not wise to persist. What was she like before & are we talking performance or a gentle hack?

@BalmyNites we think someone jumped her wrong. She's only 9. Idk if the aggression is because of pain or because she got spayed too. 🤦... She's not my horse I'm trying to rehab her. But she doesn't react to a specific spot she just gets pissy to random touch. I've never felt with this

@Rosiechick13 Funnily enough, I did wonder when you said she bites feet 😏
Ahh, 9 is just coming into a nice age for a mare too, bless her
Why was she spayed, did she have ovarian cysts? Spaying is major, major surgery for a mare, high risk of death
Strange thing, cysts can cause aggression in mares 🤔
Has she been on hormone treatment?
I’m honestly not surprised at her aggression if she’s been through so much & a lot of different handlers too
How long has she been turned away? You may need to go back to basics, get the vet to go through everything again with a fine tooth comb - & once medical reasons are eliminated, take her through the sand school & in-hand work only
Don’t even try to ride her, I wouldn’t - treat her as green & start from scratch, she needs rehab & to build trust again with one person

@BalmyNites she's on a hormone and joint supplement. She's always had the same owner. Some idiot at an old barn jumped her without permission way too young. She had a cyst. But the owner kinda disappeared once she got sick.... She tried a few trainers noone could get her past a trot. She joins up with me and trusts me ..... But still can turn pretty quick.... I'm just at a loss
BalmyNites · F
@Rosiechick13 That’s good she’s on hormone treatment, which joint supplement, is it glucosamine/chondroitin?
Ahh, so easy to cause injury - not so simple to put right 😏
That doesn’t surprise me at all, a lot of horse owners disappear once the vet bills start rolling in
Not insured then?
So you’ve done join up in the school? That’s good, sounds like you have a good starting point
Of course she will, look at what she’s been through - spaying for one is so, so rare for mares
It’s going to take time & a lot of patience - it’s whether you want to invest yourself in her, poor thing needs someone
Forget the riding, I would - put it aside for now & ‘be with’ her, get to know each other again
PS) She won’t progress on from trot you say - does she lunge ok?

@BalmyNites I just want the aggression to stop. To the borders myself the other horses...... She's a B when she wants to be lol. But she can be amazing. She's TB and trekener mix. She's still "her owner" but she runs to me not her ..... I feed her I care for her. ... The joint supplement is that red liquid from tsc that I can't remember the name of lol
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
She's also on vita calm and mare magic
BalmyNites · F
@Rosiechick13 I think you really need to get the vet to check her over again, just to be safe - then work with her religiously
Also, has she been seen by chiropractor recently? Should be once a year
Ahhh, lovely breed 💜
Do you mean Devils Claw? 🤔

@BalmyNites she gets 1/2 a cup of purina that's it
BalmyNites · F
@Rosiechick13 But why, she’s young & it’s summer?
All she needs is hay (not haylage)
Is she boxed at the moment? Be careful with colic 😊

@BalmyNites no but she has a grazing muzzle. She's fat but her owner insists I'm just glad she cut her back.
BalmyNites · F
@Rosiechick13 omg lol, she really doesn’t need that hard feed, tell the silly owner she’s risking her own animal 😁
So she’s turned out? During day or overnight? (Higher sugar in the grass during day)

@BalmyNites she's eating feed once a day and she's full turn out with run ins. She's overweight (wonder why) so I've been lunging. That's the other weird part she LOVES to lunge
BalmyNites · F
@Rosiechick13 Does she have space to run, or is it constricted?
Yeah, wonder why she’s overweight lol 😁
Ahh bless, sounds like she enjoys working with you

@BalmyNites till she desired she's a mare lol. She is a complete raging mare when she wants to be then she comes up to me this sweet and I melt. She's also a spitting image of my late gelding
BalmyNites · F
@Rosiechick13 Ha ha well they do say moody mares lol 😂
Could be worse, at least she’s not a chestnut
She is very beautiful isn’t she, I can see why you melt
Ahh, I lost my bay gelding too 🙏💕

@BalmyNites he died in a freak accident.... After 2 years of healing him from an auction kill pen. He was my heart horse.....
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
She is beautiful just a jerk lol. I'm taking some horsemanship classes in a few weeks with my boss so hopefully that helps me with her
