Why celebrities from the 40s and 50s didn't need much makeup or plastic surgery to look good like the celebrities of today?

@bijouxbroussard I didn't know that Marilyn Monroe had a nose job.

I've come to know just about everything else about her, from her childhood in and out of foster families and orphanages, her career as a model, her romantic interludes with Joe DiMaggio, Arthur Miller, and even the Kennedy Brothers, as well as her rise to fame as an actress and especially the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death.

Did you know that her beauty mark was actually a piercing?

@Sidewinder No...hers was a mole. She used makeup to cover it as a young model, until she became comfortable with it.
But when people get piercings now in that spot, it’s called a “Marilyn Monroe”.
