Ruptured My Left Arm Vein While Donating Plasma

Thankfully they noticed early on and applied ice to it to prevent further damage. I used my right arm for donating the remaining 90% of the plasma. I was told it'll heal in a few days to a week, and not much to worry about. Also I was reminded to be more hydrated, and now I regret adding about a teaspoon of salt to 500ml bottled water.

@samueltyler2 the needle wasn't able to return the blood after the plasma was extracted for the first round, and then the nurse tried re-positioning it and then it ruptured. it would've happened even without her doing that since right when it began, she complained the blood flow was too weak and an air bubble showed up just before it occured. I knew from other donors that if an air bubble shows up, then something bad happened.

@uikakarotuevegeta i have done thousands of sticks, started thousands of IVs, sure i have missed, caused some hematomas, but never "ruptured" a vein.

@samueltyler2 should I sue the nurse for rupturing my vein then?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@uikakarotuevegeta no, it was probably explained in the consent. If any permanent damage, perhaps.

@samueltyler2 yeah the form did say they can only be held liable for negligence or misconduct, which obviously would be legal exemptions to the waiver I signed
