Embracing empathy and avoiding assumptions

On the internet, we often don't see the full picture of a person's life. It's like judging a book just by its cover. People are more complicated than what we see online. When we assume things about them based on their online presence, it can lead to misunderstandings. Online communication lacks facial expressions and tone, making it easy to misinterpret messages. Something that seems okay to one person might be taken the wrong way by someone else. So, it's important not to jump to conclusions about a person's intentions or character. The internet brings together people from all over the world, each with their own background and way of doing things. What might seem strange to us could be completely normal for someone else. Being aware of these differences helps create a more inclusive and understanding online community. In simple terms, we should be careful about making judgments or assumptions about people on the internet. Everyone has a unique life, and online interactions can easily be misunderstood. Being open-minded, understanding, and not assuming the worst helps make the online world a more respectful and friendly place.

I really struggle with this, not just with online communication but real life too. It's so easy to assume things and judge someone based on a couple of interactions.

Precisely what is lacking in today's world, compared to the time Internet just came in. Everyone wants to know everything about everyone, but just don't know how to get to know a person over time. No tolerance for words, No space for another to play or nudge, it is all touch & go.

Whereas they fail to understand that there is so much time and room to write to one another. During EP days we used to get healthy and wholesome personal messages and stories. But now, some pm takes 6 months to reply and all that I receive is just one word.

Nothing to blame the online tools. Just that people have become too narrow minded.

Well put. Completely agreed

I think you said that very well and I agree, but the reverse is also true - that your online chat friend is scheming to take advantage of you. It’s a different world from the one that even I grew up in, and seems to be evolving quickly. Who can keep up?

@Jill1990
that your online chat friend is scheming to take advantage of you.
that's just a phobia, as if everyone has time to scheme and take advantage, when most have little time to spare. There are enough avenues to evaluate a person and from the way they interact. So maturity is all about that, by just not falling for words but guage whether the words are reasonable.
