Would you name your child after your first love?

I've always wondered how people separate memory from meaning. Some names stay with us long after the person is gone, not because we still love them, but because they once meant something important. So if you truly loved someone once, and the relationship is already part of the past, would giving that name to your child feeling sentimental, strange, or completely wrong?

I certainly couldn’t see the child’s father being too thrilled with that idea. I sure as heck wouldn’t be if the situation were reversed and he wanted to name our child after his first love.

@OlderSometimesWiser Fair point 😭 honestly, I only got the idea from a movie scene, not from real life. But I wouldn't be surprised if there are actually people out there who've done it. I guess it depends on whether the name still feels tied to the person or if it just became a name they genuinely loved over time.
@mssweetdreams Either way it strikes me as a bad idea. Unless you didn’t mention to your partner the fact that it’s the name of your first love. Also a bad idea.
