Love through the years

A friend of mine recently returned from his 50-year high school reunion.

A number of the attendees, including him, had married their high school sweethearts and were still married.

There were 14 such couples, and they got together for a group photo.

After the photo was taken, my friend commented, "The only thing more beautiful than young love is old love."

I suppose there are a few in my high school class but I can only think of one couple. She was a cheerleader who pulled the train for the basketball team.

My wife and I were high school sweethearts, and we saw a few others at our reunions. At each reunion, my wife was always surprised when one or two men told her about the big crush they had on her in high school. It's 800 miles away, so we don't go to reunions any more.

Love shared through the years has a special quality to it. Couples are past the romantically in love stage, and the feeling that binds them is stronger — shared memories, familiarity with each other, etc.
