How do you know someone still loves his/her ex?

I feel like my entire relationship is a lie.
It hurts a lot.
My BF still contacts his ex knowing it hurts me.

I think he still cares about her.
He needs to cut the apron strings and focus on your relationship. He can't have it both ways. Its cruel in my opinion. Id dump him asap if I were in your shoes. Don't settle for second place!!!
