I just let stuff come out honestly, which sounds wrong sometimes.

The only way that you could be hurt by what someone else says to you, is if what they say holds an inkling of truth in it. You might need to evaluate yourself, and find out why that hurt you. If they were saying it to hurt you, and it isn't true, don't give it another thought, let alone be bothered by their false statement.
