If someone is only in a relationship with someone because they feel sorry for their partner, would you consider this love?

No.

1. Being with someone out of pity or sympathy for them is unfair to both of you: none will be tully content - you will both always feel that something is missing.

2. Playing a lifetime role is way too much of a burden that will drag you both into a spiral of despair.

3. A big sting now is better than total emotional destruction later - be honest with your heart and theirs.

Truth hurts but it is liberating: Be kind and firm - the other person may be disappointed at first but they will understand and respect you for being direct with them. If they are wise, you might just save and strengthen a lifelong friendship!

If, however, they don't understand, don't suffer: it means they were not mature enough for a serious relationship to begin with. And maybe they are not even compatible with you in terms of friendship. A strong friend will understand.

Don't pick a "right" moment: have this talk urgently!

Be real; good luck! :)
