What is it that should be done when somebody falls for you like that.?

I mean... what do you say to them that wont sound like you dont care about them the same way and where they wont feel like you've been leading them on.?

Can this have an effect on the friendship?

It's a very uncomfortable place to be.

Be happy for a start. Be honoured. What you should do depends on whether or not you see a future with them.

If you don't want to be with them you thank them and be as honest as you can with them without hurting their feelings. You can tell them how much you care about them but that you don't see them in that way. You might even love them but in a different way, friendship way.

Absolutely. But nothing the friendship can't overcome if you care about each other enough.

Do you back off? Do you change?

Maybe be a bit more aware of the things you say and do so as not to give off the wrong signals.

every situation is different so it's hard to say without knowing the feelings of each person for the other within the situation.
