I Challenge You to Challenge Me to Write
July 20, 2026
Some of you have been here long enough to remember the writing community we had back on Experience Project.
There were so many writers there. We shared stories and poems, challenged each other, inspired each other, and sometimes found ourselves writing something we never would have written without someone else’s words to get us started.
When EP ended and many of us found our way here to Similar Worlds, some of that community came with us. Over the years, I’ve watched people come and go, but there are still writers here. Some I’ve known for years. Others I haven’t discovered yet.
And I’d really like to find you.
Years ago, a friend @Fungirlmmm hosted a weekly writing challenge here. She would give us a collection of words, sometimes an image, and invite us to see what we could create from them. I always loved the idea, and I’ve found myself missing it.
So, inspired by what she started and by the writing communities we’ve had here and on EP, I thought it might be time to begin something new.
Welcome to The Weekly Muse. ✍🏻
Each month will have a theme, and every Monday I’ll share a new collection of words inspired by it. Use three. Use them all. Follow the theme or completely ignore it, and see where the words take you.
Write a poem. Tell a story. Share a memory. Create a character. Take a photograph. Find a song. Make us laugh. Break our hearts. Surprise us.
There are no rules about length, style, or genre. This is simply an invitation to create.
If you join in, please come back to the weekly challenge post and leave a link to your post in the comments. That way, we can find each other’s work, read what everyone creates, and encourage the writers who are brave enough to share a little piece of themselves.
And if you know someone here who loves to write, invite them to join us.
Maybe we can bring a little of that old writing magic back.
Ready?
This month’s theme is:
☀ SUMMER AFTER DARK 🌙
This week’s words:
Dusk
Barefoot
Fireflies
Whiskey
Laughter
Heat
Midnight
Optional prompt:
Write about a summer night you never wanted to end.
Use the words. Use the theme, or ignore both, and follow wherever your imagination takes you.
Then come back and leave a link to your post in the comments so we can find you.
I’ll show you mine if you show me yours. 😉
Let’s write! 😊
