Novel writing

Anyone ever write and even publish a book? I've had an idea for one for several years now. I've added tidbits here and there. I don't know if it'll be any good. Hoping there was a place I could go to post small portions of it to get genuine criticism

I have written two books on our family history, but I only published a few copies for those who asked for them. I was lucky to have a relative with editorial skills who reviewed and helped me get things right. I need to publish new editions with revisions and additions, but I can't seem to get around to it.
