Today I was thinking about the plural of the word "bus" because I think too much 🤷

I was texting my brother & he told me how much he hated riding busses. So in our conversation we both used the spelling, "busses" & it made me wonder 🤔

I know it's not incorrect but nobody ever taught me the difference so I decided to Google the differences between "buses" & "busses" to see if they're supposed to be used in different instances or something.

I would've assumed if it was used as a verb, like "he busses it anywhere he needs to go", then it would be better to spell it the longer way. But surprisingly no 😮
It turns out that "buses" & "busses" could be used in any of the same instances whether being a noun or a verb. Although, the spelling "busses" has become so rare that many people immediately think it's wrong.

Sorry I'm an over thinker for sure 😂
That concludes our English lesson for the day 😌

For tonight's homework I want you all to curse the English language for having way too many unnecessary words 🙏

*Edited for grammar because how dare I write an English lesson with errors* 😂
SW-User
I normally spell it buses. I too, thought busses would be better suited as a verb. But lol i like your random thoughts 😅

Oh btw it's "grammar" not grammer 😝 How dare you make such a mistake in an English lesson 😆
@SW-User dude same! 😂 I catch it right when I post it & I just HAVE to correct it lol
@ChiefWalksWith40oz I misspell things on purpose just to annoy jaydee 🤭 he corrected one of my posts once and I refused to fix it.
SW-User
@Stark Yeah ughh. I noticed on another post after that, you made a mistake too. And i was thinking "nah, she's got to be doing this on purpose now" LOL 🤣 So i refused to mention it 😅

After my brother got me into Trailor Park Boys, Ricky would Instead of saying “responsibilities” he would say responsiblez. Like I got responsiblez now ! And j roc taught us “getting groceries” was gankin groceries!
@SW-User lmao I've seen a bunch of random stuff about that show but know very little about it 😂 my homies are all into it but I'm not. Looks funny but yeah not my thing lol
SW-User
@ChiefWalksWith40oz it’s stupid it’s funny! The first couple of episodes I was ugh! This is stupid !! But he drew me into it.. I like bubbles a lot ! Though lol
@SW-User yeah maybe thats why I haven't gotten into it 😂 i find it kinda dumb even though it's kinda funny too. It's that "dumb funny" which usually doesn't entertain me for long. But it has an appeal somewhere
But this seems to be a common thing for the English language that’s why it’s so challenging to learn. There are several words that are spelled the same but have different meanings and several words that are spelled differently but have similar meanings.
@Turtlepower it’s annoying af it messes with my dyslexia badly. Lol

@Stark yeah... It's amazing how much we learned. It's hard to teach because it's like here is the rule except these tons of exceptions haha
@Stark that's what I said too 😅 it's a ridiculous language to learn lmao

Reading your “overthinking” is far more interesting than a lot of the posts here. I agree, there are too many unnecessary words in the English language.
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
I have to say this because it's irresistible... You misspelled grammar in your edit 🤣.

It's funny because I never thought of that and I'm an overthinker who probably would've gone with buses based on visual memory but idk I think I prefer busses now.
@Turtlepower & I actually prefer busses too now 😅
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@ChiefWalksWith40oz it happens :D

I think these quirks of language are interesting, and not "overthinking" at all!

For example, how come "entrance" (the way in) and "entrance" (enthrall, hypnotize) are spelled the same? 🤔
@ServantOfTheGoddess yeah I always wanna know the right usage of everything because I like writing & I would hate to look stupid for using anything wrong 😂
@Imsleepy also a good one! 🤔 English is complex for no damn reason 😂 I can't really blame anyone for having any trouble with it 🤷
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
@ChiefWalksWith40oz we all look stupid sometimes, it's unavoidable!
I actually would have assumed busses was correct, because that’s the only way I’ve seen it spelled in plural form. But, after reading the second part of your posts I immediately knew it was going to be some bullshit like they’re both right lol. That happens a lot when I google stuff like that.
@Stark yeah I've always seen both but I see "buses" way binter One online article said that "buses" is used 15 times to every time "busses" is used once. Idk where tf they got those stats though 😂
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
The reason that it’s fallen out of favor is that a “bus” is a vehicle, while a “buss” is a kiss.

While not technically incorrect as a plural for “bus”, the word “busses” seems more like it should be the plural of “buss”.
The word “buses” is the more commonly accepted plural for “bus”.
@DragonFruit oh I know but thanks for adding to the lesson 😌 very interesting to add as well. I could've talked a lot longer about it but I cut myself short because I didn't wanna be all extra 🤣

Often, where a word in Britain is spelled with a double S (or an L), Americans use only a single letter.

In the case of busses it should be noted that buss means kiss (both as a noun and as a verb.)
@Really very true indeed sir

You should be a teacher
@Jenny1234 with all my tattoos from the neck down I'm sure I might even look cool to my students 😌
spjennifer · 56-60, T
If the plural of mouse is mice and the plural of louse is lice, why isn't the plural of house hice? I was never able to get a proper answer out of English teachers on that one... 😖
Really · 80-89, M
@spjenniferMore than one goose is geese. Two moose should be meese, and what about caboose/cabeese. Shouldn't one sheep be a shoop?

Edit: And asurely a single hair from a sheep is a flooce.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Really Also true, the follies of the English language 🤪
