Did you ever notice that “choir” is misspelled?
The vowel sounds are reversed. As spelled it should be pronounced “Kwow-ire”

Apparently it was at some point spelled "quire". The spelling "choir" was influenced by "chorus" and the French word "choeur" but it's not the original spelling of that word.
