Freedom from advertising.

I recently recalled that I grew up in a time & place virtually free of unavoidable advertising. There were billboards of course, and some scattered ads in the newspapers (newspapers!) but BBC radio and TV were free & non-commercial and telemarketing hadn't been thought of. Today's population wouldn't be able to imagine it. I didn't know "how good we had it," - or how awful it was going to get.

People here still recite word for word ads or jingles from tv ads of their youth

@StevetheSleeve There were no tv or radio ads in my youth. I was stuck with Old Mother Hubbard and Three Blind Mice on the gramophone. (But I gave up reciting those when I reached 80 😅)

@Really Why exactly were those mice running after the farmer’s wife? Pervs
Really · 80-89, M
@StevetheSleeve I don't know why. Maybe there was a second verse that I never heard. I'll have to research the matter. Pervs, you say? Maybe aiming to run up the farmer's wife's leg? I think that's what women fear most about mice - or did when they wore skirts. (The Good Old Days)

Note to the terminally, pedantically literal: This is in JEST.
