I'm not easily offended, especially by words alone...

However, wtf is up with the word police (not the word, police. I'm talking about the enforcers of political correctness). Why is it ok to insult someone who's clearly not retarded by calling them mentally challenged when they do stupid things? Isn't that how the word, retarded became a bad word? It makes no sense to me.

I thought the insult to the mentally challenged community was that their condition was being used to describe idiotic behavior as if being retarded meant the same as being an idiot or a clown.

I've been noticing more and more that people get away with using the new accepted term of 'mentally challenged' to describe those same idiots that used to be called retarded when they engage in "dip-shittery," so what's the fuckin' difference? It's still a disrespectful comparison.

Like I said, I really don't care what words get stacked together in order to facilitate effective communication. I just don't like engaging in futility or throwing away recognizable words because certain people who usually aren't in any of the arenas where the questionable words get used. ..at least that seems to be the case with my current gripe.

My son was born with severe mental and physical challenges. He's off the charts and spectrums. I've been caring for him for 25 years and, although ive never said it nor heard it said that he's retarded, it wouldn't bother either of us if it ever happened. In fact, i look forward to that day and many more like it, as long as it's not accompanied with any malice

The word, retarded doesn't just apply to the mentally challenged anyway. It's used to describe a situation or relationship or arrangement, etc that is behind, delayed or slower than normal. Its antonym is, advanced. A car's ignition timing can be advanced and it can be retarded.

Off topic, but usful none the less, If you normally drive at around sea level and you move to a higher elevation, you can advance your ignition timing a few degrees to get back some lost performance. If you live at a high elevation and move to sea level, you can retard your timing a few degrees to get it to idle properly (I'm assuming you're bringing your car(s) with you when you move, of course 😉)
