If you've never ridden, look into a motorcycle safety course. They can help you learn about riding and give you good tips and advice on how to ride. That way you don't start with bad habits. Some courses like at the Harley dealer near me they will supply the bike. Always nice if you drop it to be theirs and now your own. 🤭
What style of bike do you like? A traditional cruiser, or a sport bike, adventure? They're all very different in style and riding. You're location will also make some difference.
Personally I'd look for a bit smaller inexpensive machine first to see if you really enjoy riding. Then move up when your more comfortable. I learned to ride when I was 12/13 as we lived in the country. I had a 175cc enduro (smaller but similar to an adventure bike today) and then moved up to a 400cc street bike then a 750. I sold the 750 when kids and life came along. About 7 years ago I wanted to get back to two wheels. I picked up a cheap 550cc to see if I still enjoyed it as much as I thought before dropping $$ on something nicer. I found I did still enjoy it (even more now than then). I looked at Harleys because I wanted a cruiser and like the appearance. But I had a hard time with the price given that the riding season here is generally only 6 months if you're lucky. I found a Yamaha cruiser for 1/3 of the price of a Harley and it gives me just as many smiles while rolling down the road. Good luck and make sure to invest in protective gear. The life you save may just be your own.

@WindTherapy all great advice.
I learned to ride many years ago on a 175 Enduro. Great little bike.
A couple more along the way, and now my big cruiser is 1800cc. Lots of fun.

I've have only had a Harley and have been riding since 2008. I love it when I get the chance.
You just have to be very very careful when out near traffic. There are more vehicles than ever on the road and more bad drivers than ever.
I only go out on the weekends and ride on more of the rural roads where there is less chance of an accident

So many variables.
Have you ridden before, or totally green.
Looking for just around town riding, or out on the highway.
I have a couple, one is sportier, the other a cruiser.

Triumph Bonneville T100
I like the older British styles, Triumph, Royal Enfield, BSA, Norton…
Good looking bikes with manageable power.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout My Dad told me before he died hjat they couldn't find a babysitter when they rereleased Easy Rider in 1971 when I was a year old, that while my two older brothers were fussing, I was mesmerized by the motorcycles in the movie, that my mother noticed and was like "oh, shit".

@NativePortlander1970 my 18 year old is just about to get his licence.. he’s sees himself as a rider not a driver 😑
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Yep, you drive a car, you ride a motorcycle.

What style are you interested in? Sport? Cruiser?
@js3686 sport maybe
@Theambivert Then start with an old Ninja 450
js3686 · 36-40, M
@Theambivert For newer bikes, the ninja 400 is my number one pick for a newer sport bike.

No, but it does seem fun
I used to ride decades ago, go with a mid sized old Japanese Universal between 550 to 750.
