I'm a wannabe stoic. I try but dammit, my emotions always wins
I'm inspired by stoics but I'm no hard core stoic person
What's a stoic?
My virtues are telling me to not respond to this.

I’ve only just started reading Meditations.

@southerngent I haven't read it. How is it like?
@Queendragonfly it’s short and to the point. I could probably read it straight through but won’t get much from it. It helps that I got the version with notes by Marcus Aurelius scholars.

But I think you have to want to take things slower and become less reactive to things for it to start making sense.

@southerngent Maybe it will make sense to me then since I'm often criticised for being too chill and even told I'm faking it 😂

I still have sensitive subjects to improve, like my CPTSD that makes me go "I'M GONNA DIE" each time there's a loud sound. I'm able to catch my reaction and calm me down now but it would be nice if there's a way to prevent that reaction and increased pulse entirely. But maybe that's beyond stoic powers?

I'm intrigued to read that book now!
@Queendragonfly there are several people out there who write about this stuff. I started by reading one of Ryan Hollidays books. But I’m sure there are others.

Actually it’s a lot like the serenity prayer.

@southerngent I haven't read any of the traditional stoic books, I've read stoic inspired ones though. Mainly because I'm a bit afraid of the complicated language in the old traditional ones. Especially if they're in English. Not sure how much I will actually be able to understand.
