Is Mid-60’s Temperatures with 25 mph Winds Good Weather To Go Swimming?

Today is the last day of school at the private school where the boy goes. They are supposed to go to the swim complex this afternoon and swim. I tried to tell the boy that it might be cancelled. It was cold this morning with the wind & 50 degree temps. I can’t see getting in a swimming pool for a couple of hours in that kind of weather.

Hopefully it's an indoor pool :)

Otherwise, the water may be heated to make it tolerable, but if not, and if the overnight temperature dipped into the 50s it probably took the water temperature down with it.

There's probably a hypothermia chart somewhere on the internet to give a clue about what temperatures and conditions make it dangerously cold.

@Heartlander No it is not an indoor pool. This has been the temps for the past few days and it’s been cloudy and raining every day too.

I've had a couple of swimming pool related jobs in the younger years. also water survival training with the military, etc. As an upper teen lifeguard and swimming instructor we were in the water by 9 a.m. in late May and I don't recall extended misery beyond the first splash. Also a few experiences with water survival classes in an indoor pool where the water at times was super cold but the air temperature was 75 or 80. Also I believe a few hotels had a combo indoor-outdoor pool with a divider wall and an outside temperature at near zero F and I remember ice crystals forming in the hair as soon as you popped up in the outdoor part.

I think you may have to just test the water, and make sure there's a way to quickly get out and have a big towel nearby. Also a "you first" strategy so you can judge by someone else's yelling before deciding whether you are next :)
