I Identify As A Redneck….

I was trimming small branches off of a Rose of Sharon tree and dropped my hand pruners back between the bottom of the tree and the fence. There was some leaves and vines there so I didn’t want to stick my hand down to retrieve them thinking that a snake could be hiding under that mess. I got my rake and tried to rake the mess out but the space wasn’t wide enough. I needed those pruners so I decided to try a tube sock with a strong magnet inside and dangle it down to the pruners. Went & got the sock and magnet and sure enough it worked quickly. Still need to get that mess out from behind the tree though. Then I got a window screen on the sun room window that I couldn’t fit back into the window. It has some type of side springs on one side that bulge out and I can’t figure out how to flatten them both to get the screen in. Got my roll of Alien Tape and cut two small chunks and attached the screen on one side to the window frame after sliding the other side into the slot…then used Duck tape to seal the tiny gap at the top to keep another Yellow Jacket from getting inside. Gorilla Tape, Duck Tape, Magnet In A Tube Sock, Yep I’m a Redneck. I also keep Krazy Glue and Wire Coat Hangers handy for repairs.

@Carissimi just trying to get things done instead of letting them go too long. I didn’t want to forget where the pruners were. And that spot is about 3 feet from where I was pulling weeds a couple of years ago between a fig bush and the fence and smelled a snake smell as I was on my hands & knees. I got up carefully and backed up and got the hell out of there. Trying hard not to let anything grow up that a snake would like except they would like the middle of the figs, big shady leaves and dark & quiet in the middle of each one.

@Carissimi When snakes get scared they can throw out a musk smell that to me smells like a dead rat. The bigger the snake the stronger it smells. When you are close enough to a snake to scare it that’s too close. Maybe even striking distance

@Carissimi Had a friend that worked with who told me one day that she went into her bedroom one day and smelled a dead rat smell. She lived out in the country and got her husband and told her that’s what they say copperhead snakes smell like. They got the flashlight and looked around and sure enough there was a copperhead snake underneath their bed. They got a hoe and a broom and got it out and chopped it’s head off. I’d have had to change my underwear if I was in that situation. I don’t think I could do it without passing out. Plus be paranoid about the rest of the house maybe having a snake in it too. Would tear everything up searching for more or where it came in from.

@Carissimi this is a good place for a snake to hide
