Anyone know of a good brand to buy a 12 Gauge?

I don't know a whole lot about guns in general, especially when it comes to specs, quality and brands. I do know a 12 gauge is the more typical option for security purposes and home defense, so that's where I'm starting. I'm just a little apprehensive to go buy a random shotgun because I'm looking for something reliable. Hopefully, y'all can give me some pointers. Thank you!

Thank you all for the advice. It definitely helps with the decision making process! I definitely needed this. Long story short, I got threatened last night by my wife's ex and a friend of theirs. They were out on the farm threatening to burn everything to the ground. Fortunately, I have a security background (no I never had to handle a gun because I was a level two guard but I was taught how to fight from a former corporal marine), and I followed my training like I should to de-escalate the scenario. They left the property after my wife informed the cops while I was stalling them. But no word on them being caught.

However, I don't want to take any chances on that or any other people that have the same intentions. Not to mention, in general, I go out on the property to begin my day before the asscrack of dawn. It's dark out there! I don't want to get mauled either! I need to protect myself, my wife, and the farm. So I hope that clears anything up for those that wanna come at me with the, "You don't need a gun! You don't live in a warzone!" Or some other b.s.
