Simple question

Has anyone got any idea of how to retire with some comfort left? Personally, I'm looking at it right now and actually telling myself that I'll never be able to retire. That's alright, but heck, for what were the pension funds for then? Stuffing pockets? No, I fear that much worse is to come. I wish that there were more adults around than just grown up children. Less orange please!

I remember some people saved by investing in mutual funds for many years. It takes time. But only when you have regular income you do it. When you are 30 and working start small invest planning and continue it till you are 60. But it comes handy only if you have income. I failed to do so but in future I will start it.

@littlepuppywantanewlife Yes, but at present the whole spectrum of investment possibilies is looking bad. Long term bank accounts look interesting to me. Did those in nineties and got 15% then. Now it's probably only 3%
@val70 it's three everywhere. Fixed deposit are little higher. Whereas mutual funds are 12-15 percent but only for long term.

@littlepuppywantanewlife Don't believe in funds that yield those figures any more. That's more than misleading at times.

I’m okay but I’m concerned how tough it will be on my kids when it’s their turn.

I’ve will have a military pension, several much smaller civilian ones, and assets I can sell to try give my girls a cushion from what the world might be like 60 years from now.

@val70 Yes of course it is. But what are you going to do about it?

@AdmiralPrune Not voting for the extremes helps, and voicing it a lot more.

@val70 Yes. That should do it….

I already know I can't retire. I'm going to have to help my son make it in this world because of this shite show right now. So I just take breaks. 3-4-5 months at a time while I'm still kicking. Except that work endlessly hard mentality my boomer parents forced on me destroyed my back. If things don't change I'll probably off myself before I get too old so I don't ruin my son's life.

I think there's a lot of us feel this way.
Watching our pension pots decrease in value every year whilst the government tells me to work harder for much longer to cover the shortfall between what they told us to do when we were younger and what they haven't contributed themselves.
