I'm going to an actor/filmmaker pop up event but I'm stressin' about it

I have a post on here that relates to this for reference entitled "Frustrated actor"

So this Wednesday I'm going to a network event for actors/filmmakers etc. I would be excited for it because this could be exactly what I need to revitalize my acting pursuits since I haven't gotten a single audition. The only thing is every time I've been to these type of events, they'd be all nice and act like they wanna network in my face, then after you exchange contact info, it's like you're dead in the water. So I have that kinda stuck in my head, almost knowing any "connection" I make there is just for the moment. Most people are such flakes today that whatever in person interaction you have with a new person, you sort have to take it with a grain of salt these days. At least that's how I'm looking at it because from experience that's just how it's went for me. Plus I feel a bit played already because I was invited to this event thru a casting site called backstage, from this guy who runs a film production company. At first he said that I'd be on the invite list for a free pop up shoot, to get professional footage for a demo reel. I was told to register when he first contacted me, which I did. Little did I know a week later, it never went thru or so he said.

So I had to do it again but by then so many other people had signed up. I can still go to the event but now he's telling me how random people who registered will be "randomly" picked (top 5) to try it out for free. He told me a week ago he could bump me up to the official invite list, when I asked about it again yesterday...no answer. I'm still gonna go to the event because I'd be stupid not to go, because it's not like anything has been happening for my acting career..it's just all of this is leaving a lil bit of a sour taste in my mouth and it hasn't even started yet. I swear before the event I'm gonna pop a few ativans, so I can be relaxed in there and I don't make a fool out of myself. Oh and I'm worried and stressing because there's a chance this one actress that I regrettably worked with is gonna show up as well. The reason that would be bad is because we do not like each other for reasons I won't get into. She books all the time so she is busy a lot anyways. So I'm hoping she isn't there but then again if I got the message/invite to go, I'm sure she did as well because acting in my area is a small market/community as it is and she's been booking like crazy (pretty privilege is real) I may trigger some folks by saying that but it's the sobering truth

1st of all.. Definitely go. 2nd of all .. No Atavans. Be your best Authentic Self. You are about to Chase your Dream, be the Best Version of You.

@Iwillwait Chasing my dreams huh?...Yup that's definitely what it feels like, just me chasing and it not chasing me back...Also I've been pursuing this for a long time, you said "about to chase my dreams" as if I just started today lol Nah ativan isn't to drug me up, I would be my authentic self but I suffer from some serious severe anxiety man, it's to calm me down. It doesn't change the core of who I am, just calms me down and I've been stressing about a lot lately, more then what I've expressed on this post so YES a thousand times yes ativans. They will be taken

@Endlessvortex578 I wish you all the best at your Network event.

@Iwillwait Thank you! Finally a comment with some common sense and common decency. Last person who never even done this tried to imply she knew more just because she said "do the opposite" and since I haven't gotten any auditions, despite me having pursued this for almost a decade now. I had to delete that laughable comment. I'm glad this site lets you do that. I wish reddit did as well or I would've vented there. There's way less traffic here but that's one thing I love about this site, you can remove any troll/idiotic comments that come your way. Anyways, thank you!

@Endlessvortex578 You're welcome. I am not sure what to expect industry wise for number off Auditions without an Agent, but my guess is, it's very difficult. The event you're going to sounds really promising and will get you and your look exposed to the right people.

Have fun, and do not forget to Pray, ask God to placel the right people in your Path and to have favour over you and give you the work opportunities to use your Craft.

😎

[@Iwillwait I don't believe in God and please do not try to convert me, it will not work. I appreciate the sentiment though and your kind words. Nah you can get auditions without an agent, an agents can just get you bigger auditions for bigger stuff, like netflix, hulu stuff. I haven't even been able to get indie, low level projects with 500 dollar headshots and an expensive reel I paid to have shot since I can't get any footage from an actual project. It's actually pretty sad if you think about it. I know to someone who doesn't act, this is all mumbo jumbo crap but yeah, it's a nightmare and a half that's for sure. Yup, that's exactly what the desired out come is for that event. I just hope that they aren't fake ass people, who pretend to vibe with me and wanna collab or whatever, then blow me off when I try to reach out to them online....It's always what happens smh What can I say? People are just very wishy washy these days

@Endlessvortex578 I can see that would be discouraging. Do you still need three jobs under your belt go join SAG? Is SAG now a determent to getting work due to scale wages?
Endlessvortex578 · 22-25, M
@Iwillwait Ohh so it isn't just mumbo jumbo to you lol I see you know a lil something about the industry then. So you're an actor as well, or did you used to pursue it in the past? I have no idea, but that does sound about right

@Endlessvortex578 Nah... I just know little about the industry. I always wanted to Act, Make Music, but I never prioritized it enough to persue "The Dream."
