Public school fail. A vent.

My kiddo is in 5th grade and testing at a 9th grade level in math, college in reading. He's in the accelerated program at his school but I look through his work and they aren't challenging him in math. He's bored and I found out his teacher lets him read most of the day. I asked her about some outside resources for math as he wants more and more. He asked me for math books for xmas... I got an attitude from his teacher, just like I got an attitude two years ago when I asked, telling me he has plenty to do and he's doing it.

I was much more careful approaching it this time, and still got shot down. I want him to have the challenge he wants, but I am not good at math. He goes through a thicc book in three days, so thankful for the library. I'm feeling stuck. Obviously a 5th grade teacher with a class of kids is not going to teach algebra to just my kid, but I thought they would have connections within the education system? Maybe through the community college? I'd take him to classes or help him do an online course. Is that ridiculous of me?

This kid is hungry for knowledge, why not open a door for him?

Hey, just be glad your kid can read. A lot of kids in the American education system can't. Apparently they are only interested in churning out corporate slave worker drones and cannon fodder.
@GeistInTheMachine guess they don't need smart people

@ScreamingFox Worse! They hate smart people. Why do you think they screen them out of police forces? Think too much and you won't follow the programming. They want servants and soldiers.
@GeistInTheMachine my mom was a teacher. I feel like I understand now why she was always fighting with the administrators.

@ScreamingFox Teachers are treated horribly in this country, and are underpaid. The good ones are burnt out and abused, and the rest? Well... Let's just say the system works as intended. If the property taxes in your district don't amount to much, I guess Uncle Sam says the Almighty Dollar demands your kids are starved of a gainful future.

But if he wants a college loan and your first born makes it through school shooting drills in grade school, Big Brother wants to send your progeny off to be shot at by Chinese and Russians who actually have something to fight for.

Go figure! I am sorry, I don't know how American parents do it.

If I could afford it, I would get snipped. I cannot raise a child. You're stronger than I.
@GeistInTheMachine my mom was a good one. You'd think in this bougie ass area they'd have the funds or want something to boast about. I think it's going to be a matter of moving.
