Idk what to do 🐸

So I’m just starting at college and I know I have time but I feel like I just don’t know exactly what I want to do… well I do but it’s just pretty difficult. I want to be an illustrator and make comics and visual novels and stuff like that but the issue is the salary. Im afraid of doing a career just for salary bc then I end up hating it for the rest of my life. Like nursing for example, I’m only doing classes bc that career earns good amount but for my next semester I planned on only getting my AA degree since I actually don’t want to be a nurse… I mean I love to spend time with children but the idea of them dying or anything related would prob give me PTSD so I rather not do that. And I know that I’ve been suggested that I can work at an office instead but I don’t think that will give me enough money. Idk I just hope that I can find a career that I hope to enjoy and afford me a comfortable living and I want to do it soon.

Some of the most interesting people I've ever met didn't know what they wanted at 18 or 28 or 38.
I'm 58 and what I wanted way back when is a lot different today.

Anything creative is notoriously difficult to earn a living from.
But if that's what drives you why not try independent comic writers ?
Many of them are great storytellers but have difficulty drawing the images they want.
Maybe you could join up with one or two and help bring their characters to life.

@Picklebobble2 yeah i have friends who can draw and I can also draw as well… I think that when it comes to things like these it’s kinda like being a singer… you have to have someone who knows how to market and most likely be really lucky to go up to that level. But I heard that if you focus on being famous it wouldn’t help you and my favorite group that are famous rn even said in an interview that they didn’t even focus on being famous but focused more on what they had in the moment and I feel like I should do that too. But in the meantime I do need another job or find jobs that are flexible enough and help me earn money that Can at least pay for rent, food, water bills, etc. since I don’t want my parents to do that.

You might want to think about being a nursing home administrator. They make good money.

I'm someone who didn't know what they wanted to do either at that age ...it's common and also ok ....
Take your time ..don't rush into college and end up with lots of debt over something you're not sure of ...it's not worth it ...I know because I did that ...I felt immense pressure from my Mom to go into something I wasn't even sure of and ended up being in debt over it and miserable...it's ok not to know yet ...

@SW-User I appreciate that since I’m literally going through the exact same thing :,) rn I’m just going through classes and I thought of doing graphic design but from what I heard on social media isn’t the best time to get into it rn (I think COVID affected the industry a lot)

Do comics in your free time. Make Paypal and join one of those sites where people pay you for your art, like Patreon, and see how it goes.

@NativePortlander1970 Is she objectively good? Is she still doing that or does another job?
@CrazyMusicLover She's actually very talented, artistic abilities runs in the paternal side family, she also has numerous blue ribbons won at county fairs while growing up. But like I mentioned no one is hiring, so she ended becoming a caregiver to several clients through a service, she got the gig through her mother's contacts as she's an RN at the city hospital.

Save money, attend a community college until you make up your mind
personl3 · 22-25, F
@Patriot96 yes I already planned on doing that since it’s less expensive

Get qualified as a plumber, electrician, or other building craft. Those are always in demand and you can make decent money without having to work for a company which means that you can adapt your work schedule to make time for other activities. Also it is something you can stop entirely for sometime and pick up again later.

Do what you love .. you don't want to do something you hate for the rest of life,do you ?
@ASLAN It's not always that easy.

Think about age 30. What type of life fo you dream of?

Something will fit it. Find THAT. TTHAT is what you love
My oldest niece got her graphic arts degree a few years ago and deeply regrets not taking a more viable major, she cannot find a job in the field to save her life.

@NativePortlander1970 that’s horrible! I hope she’s doing ok.. I’ve heard ppl on social media saying that they wished they did a career that earned them more money but from looking at the comments I feel like I should do that…but you know something that I will at least enjoy doing.. I’m pretty sure that will pop up
