should i give up?

one of my friends told me i could get with this cool dude that ive never met before i said sure, What i didn't know was they were trying to get me together with him when i never said anything at that time i was dating someone and they said i should break up with him, i never wanted to or planed to, when we broke up im still pretty depressed he hates me which i know that, The guy that im still dating is sweet and kind but is plane, I usually talk to my ex as i still have feelings for him but i cant break it to the dude because i dont know what to say...What do i do should i give up???
